The Super Nanny TV show rejected Sarah, above. The crew visited and decided her situation could be quickly fixed on camera. That was a blow to Sarah, then a single mom with four children. She re-married and had two more sons for a total of five boys and one girl. I’ve worked with Sarah to gradually eliminate praise, reward and punishment and replace it with positive discipline.
“Discipline” means “to teach.” Sarah learned a positive way to teach, set limits, teach cause and effect, and to establish a lifelong connection with her tots-to-teens. Sarah’s family environment transformed when she replaced reward, punishment and praise with encouragement, family meetings, family dinner and chores, and natural and logical consequences. It took time, baby steps, and getting her new husband on board.
I partner with parents to create similar results. My specialty is working with parents of any age children – including teens, teenagers, tweens, preschoolers, toddlers and school age kids.
If you have a mini-tyrant or a difficult child, tween or teen, I coach you to manage your behavior better and create contagious family change. When you change, you kids will catch it. The younger the child, the sooner the response.
